After school programming should include these 3 components –

 Activities are not meant to replicate the school day; instead compliment it with new and novel activities that balance content-based learning with a great mix of physical and cognitive fun. 

After-school programs should be informal, active and FUN with an emphasis on social growth, team work and development. 

When developing a program for children, it is important to have their feedback.  Make sure you allow the students to be a part of the daily development of your program.
